Lisbon-native soprano Sofia Bagulho began her musical studies at the age of nine at the Conservatório de Música D. Dinis, studying flute under Ricardo Alves. At sixteen, she started her singing studies at the Lisbon Conservatory with Ângela Silva. She has recently graduated with a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Mary Nelson and Amanda Roocroft.

In recent seasons, Sofia has performed with the Calouste Gulbenkian Collaborative Choir in works such as Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem. She has sung under conductors including Frédéric Chaslin, Vitor Pablo Pérez, Ed Garner, Nathalie Stutzmann, Sakari Oramo, Dominic Ellis-Peckham, Paulo Lourenço, Vasily Petrenko and Hilary Campbell. She has participated in recordings for BBC Sounds with the ORNCTLCC and performed as a soloist with choral societies across the UK. Regular engagements include appearances at Southbank Festival Hall, the Barbican, and the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Symphony Chorus and the Philharmonia Chorus conducted by Gavin Carr.

With only one year of singing experience, Sofia secured a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and a choral scholarship with the Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Chapel Choir, conducted by Ralph Allwood. She was also part of the TL Chamber Choir, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance under Joan Rodgers, Jon Christos, and Robert Bottriell, graduating with First Class Honours and receiving the TL Silver Medal of the Vocal Department. She has further developed her artistry through masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Eleonora Pacetti, Neal Semer, Lynn Eustis, Ana Paula Russo, Aylish Tynan, Susan Bullock, Rafaela Albuquerque, and Fiona Kimm.

Sofia has won several prestigious awards, including First Prize at the Bendada Music Festival Concerto Competition and the Terras de Santiago International Music Competition. She has also been a prizewinner at the Medici Music Competition, the Birmingham International Music Competition, and the Euterpe Music Awards. In February 2023, she was invited by the Bendada Music Festival to perform in Boston at the Goethe-Institut and Boston University. She also performed in the semi-finals of the Prémio Jovens Músicos competition and participated in Longhope Opera’s Don Pasquale as cover for Norina and chorus member. Alongside her performing career, Sofia teaches flute and singing and collaborates regularly with the Bendada International Music Festival.
